Help Center Riding with others

Last updated

Every route on Biketerra can be multiplayer-enabled.

On the top right of the ride page, you'll see a toggle switch:

  • Solo — nobody sees you and you see nobody.
  • Public — you share the route with everyone else riding it right now.

The Live Map

The Live Map is a subscriber feature. It shows every route with someone on it. Expand to see who's on each route (friends first) and choose:

  • Join a rider — you load the route as a spectator locked onto them, and once your devices are paired, Start riding drops you in beside them at their speed.
  • Ride the route and share it.
  • Spectate without riding.

Events on the map offer Spectate and View event. Whether you appear on it is up to your privacy settings: Everyone, Your followers, or Nobody.

Route tiles and route pages also show an N riding badge whenever someone is on them.

Spectating

Open any populated route's Spectate button, or any event's. Click a name in the rider list to follow that rider, or a group to follow its leader; with no choice made you follow the first rider to arrive. When watching a time trialist, the clock shows their own RACE CLOCK.

On a route or a casual event you can turn into a rider at any time: pair a power source and press Start riding.

The rider list

In any room or bot race, the list at the top right shows each rider's gap to you, their avatar, and one stat: W/kg, Watts or Speed (cycle it with the pill above). Group riders together or list them individually with the other pill. Rowers get a boat icon; finished riders show FIN.

Click a rider's name for Join rider, which teleports you beside them, or Mute.

The elevation profile at the bottom shows dots for the groups ahead and behind, in the same colours as the list.

Chat

Open chat with T, the chat button, or the UI tab. Enter sends. While chat is closed, incoming messages appear as toasts for a few seconds and a badge counts the unread ones. Click a sender's name to mute them; muted riders' messages are hidden everywhere.

Keep it civil: the word filter gives two warnings, and the third disables chat for the ride.

Teleporting

On free rides the Route tab offers Teleport to distance (type any point on the route), a Direction switch to ride the route backwards, and an End action of U-turn or teleport back to the start. None of these are available in races.

Post-ride

Your activity page lists everyone you rode with. Each has a Cheer button if they saved an activity from the same ride, and your own activity collects cheers in return.

Drafting

Sitting behind another rider cuts your wind resistance. The DRAFT gauge at the bottom of the HUD shows how much you're getting, and Draft feel in the Ride tab passes it on to your trainer. Leading a group earns a small pressure-wave bonus; riding directly beside someone costs a little. The numbers are on the Drafting Model page.

Steering

Biketerra's roads are two lanes wide, and where you sit on them changes your draft. Steer with ← and →, a Zwift Click v2's left and right buttons, Zwift Play or Ride paddles, or the steering angle of an OpenBikeControl controller, MUOV bike or Elite Sterzo. The line you're on when you let go becomes your preferred line.

When you aren't steering, auto-steer drifts you toward the wheel ahead that gives you the most extra draft, eases in as you reach it, and gives up the chase when you're putting out noticeably more than that rider, so you're free to overtake. There's no auto-centering: you hold your line unless a draft is on offer.

Steering stays on in races. Full-lane races open the whole road width: everyone starts in one lane, fans out over the first 20 metres, and teleports back to the start after the finish line.
