Route Guidelines
DO search before submitting. If it's a well-known route, there's a chance it's already in the route collection.
DON'T submit routes containing overlapping stretches of road. We will only accept A->B or single-lap loop routes.
DON'T submit routes containing sensitive start/end points. We won't approve routes starting in your neighborhood / house / driveway 😅
DON'T submit routes pulled directly from GPS head units. The data tends to be low quality w/ altitude issues and jagged edges.
DON'T submit routes longer than ~200km unless checking with us first. These huge routes are usually a waste of time and resources.
DO apply route refinements (in the Route Editor):
- Annotate all bridges and tunnels
- Zoom in until you see the individual route points
- Ensure points are aligned with the road (if not, drag to move the points)
- Ensure there's no overly sharp turns. If so, click on the route path to add new intermediate points to "smooth" the turn.
DO check the Route Editor "Quality" scores before submitting:
- ✅ 0 Kinks (no unrealistic direction changes)
- ✅ 80+ for Elevation alignment
- ✅ 80+ for Gradient smoothness
- Use the Route Editor to apply smoothing and fix elevations.
DO give your route a good title. It's a bit subjective, but the key is to make it informative without being too verbose.
- BAD: "My route"
- BAD: "20251214-garmin-export"
- GOOD: "Harrington Sound Loop, Bermuda"
- GOOD: "Col de Fouchy"
- GOOD: "2015 UCI Road World Championships Richmond"
