What's New (Oct 2026)
Hi there,
Happy Fall! Indoor season is about to officially start, and we have another huge batch of goodies to share.
BikeTERROR

Sign up today for our annual Halloween festival, BikeTERROR.
BikeTERROR is an atmospheric journey through the unknown wilderness. Ride solo or with friends as you explore the sights and sounds, complete challenges for coins and... try to stay alive.

BikeTERROR's wrought iron gates will screech open on October 16th and slam shut on November 1st.
Race bots
Racing is an excellent way to boost your fitness, and we've made it super easy to start a race on any training ride. In the Ride menu, you'll see a Bots setting.

Set Bots to Race.
Side note: Companions spawns a handful of social bots to ride alongside you and help draft, and Gran Fondo scatters a bunch of bots across the route.

You'll see options for Difficulty and Laps. Bots can be toggled on/off at any time (even halfway through a route), and their difficulty can be adjusted on-the-fly.

The rider list will show each race bot's archetype, relative FTP%, instantaneous power, relative distance and more.

We think you'll really enjoy these race bots.
Bots have situational awareness; they'll plan and adjust tactics based on the terrain, their energy reserves, etc.
Depending on how they're feeling, they're able to attack, sprint, counter, take a pull, hold a wheel, etc.
Event flags + banners

Every event now has flags and banners at the start/finish. There's also now flags indicating 1KM, 500M, 250M, and 100M remaining.
Better performance

The 3D engine got another behind-the-scenes upgrade. Thanks to better compression and other optimizations, Biketerra uses 100-300% less memory.

This is great news for all users, but especially those on older or lower-end devices. Biketerra should run smoother – with a steadier FPS – across the board.
Better 3D avatars

Due to popular demand, we've increased our riders' polygon intake. Avatars are smoother, more detailed, and have actual faces now.
They even wear their sunglasses at night. It's a feature, not a bug. 😎
Biketerra started with low-poly avatars because they looked cool, but mainly because we weren't sure how far in-browser 3D could take us.
If the myriad of recent visual improvements are any indication, the future of web 3D looks very bright. 💡
Better routes map
The routes map is now faster and smoother.

Thousands of routes appear instantly. Clicking a marker now shows the route's elevation profile and other helpful details.

Hovering over a marker (when zoomed in enough) displays the route path.
Lots of terrain + road fixes

Every route on Biketerra uses real-world data. The terrain builder has to weave all this data together, and account for things like:
- Blending terrain with the road when elevations don't line up
- Preventing jagged cliffs between switchbacks
- Punching tunnel holes cleanly into the terrain
- Carving water into the terrain
- Creeks above tunnels, or bridges over other bridges
Numerous edge-case bugs have been fixed. Thanks to everyone in Discord who has reported issues or proposed solutions. 🍻
