Route Privacy
Biketerra has a robust system for creating and sharing routes. Every route contains one of the following privacy levels:
Private
(Default) Unlisted, and can only be viewed and ridden by you.
Limited
Unlisted, but can be shared with other subscribers, or used as the route for events that you create (if a subscriber).
Public
Listed publicly. These routes were submitted for publication, and have passed the quality review by our team.
Submission rules
Please only submit routes for publication that follow these guidelines:
Search before submitting. If it's a well-known route, there's a chance it's already in the route collection.
Please submit ONLY A->B or 1-lap loop routes. We DO NOT yet support routes containing overlaps (i.e. out-and-back routes).
We will NOT approve routes containing sensitive start/end points. Don't submit routes that start at your house or driveway 😅
In the Route Editor's "Quality" section:
- The route should have 0 Kinks (drastic direction changes).
- The route should have Elevation alignment of 80+
- The route should have Gradient smoothness of 80+
In the Route Editor's map area:
- Annotate all bridges and tunnels
- Zoom in until you see the individual route points
- Ensure points are aligned with the road on the map (if not, drag to move the points)
- Ensure there's no overly sharp turns. If so, click on the route path to add new intermediate points, and use those points to "smooth" the turn.
- Use the UI to adjust elevation alignment and/or route smoothness.
Please give your route a thoughtful title. It's a bit subjective, but the key is to make it informative without being too verbose.
- BAD: "My route"
- BAD: "20251214-garmin-export"
- GOOD: "Harrington Sound Loop, Bermuda"
- GOOD: "Col de Fouchy"
- GOOD: "2015 UCI Road World Championships Richmond"
