The Corkscrew Road King of the Mountain (KoM) is one of the most iconic and feared climbs in the Santos Tour Down Under, renowned for its steep gradients and its history of producing decisive attacks. Nestled in the Adelaide Hills near Montacute, the climb has been the launching pad for memorable exploits from riders such as Cadel Evans and Geraint Thomas, earning a reputation as a true selector among the race's contenders. In Stage 3 of the 2027 Tour Down Under, riders will tackle Corkscrew Road twice, with the second ascent coming just five kilometres from the finish in Campbelltown, greatly increasing its tactical significance. The Category 1 climb measures 2.4 kilometres in length, gains 217 metres in elevation, averages a punishing 9.7%, and ramps up to a maximum gradient of 16.2%. Its relentless steepness favours explosive climbers and punchy general classification riders, making it a prime location for race-winning attacks and a likely turning point in the battle for the ochre jersey.
