The Menglers Hill King of the Mountain (KoM) is one of the signature climbs of the Barossa region and a regular feature of the Santos Tour Down Under. Rising above the vineyards between Angaston and Bethany, the climb is renowned for its scenic views and its ability to split the peloton despite its relatively moderate length. In the 2027 Tour Down Under, Menglers Hill features three times during Stage 2, providing repeated opportunities for riders to contest valuable KoM points and for aggressive teams to animate the race. The official KoM ascent measures 2.16 kilometres with 79 metres of elevation gain, an average gradient of 3.9% and ramps reaching a maximum of 13.3%, making it a climb that rewards explosive punch rather than pure climbing ability. While unlikely to determine the overall winner on its own, repeated ascents of Menglers Hill can wear down sprinters, encourage breakaways and play a key tactical role in shaping the outcome of the stage.
